The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an energy psychology developed over, approximately, the last 20 years, and based on ancient Chinese Meridian Energy Systems.
The earliest of the energy therapies have been traced to acupressure and shiatsu, which originated in China and Japan respectively in parallel.
Earlier evidence has been identified of acupuncture–like treatment in Africa and the Arctic, with clearer evidence available from the Alps in 1991 relating to a glacier preserved body found in the Alpine Oetz Valley between Austria and Italy. The corpse, reliably dated to around 3,200 B.C. carried 15 groups of tattoos identifiable as arthritic pain acupoints.
A book “The Emperor’s Classic of Medicine” (475-221 B.C.) described metal needles with similar use as in today’s acupuncture. This therapy is practiced and well known in the West now, and today’s energy therapies are a fusion of Eastern and Western ideas.
Goodheart, a Chiropractor, investigated links between apparent muscle strength and the body’s organs and meridians in the 1960’s, which led to muscle testing. This became known as Applied Kinesiology. Diamond subsequently applied his studies of applied kinesiology to psychotherapy to form Behavioral Kinesiology. Callahan, a psychologist, moved to tapping on meridian points and relieved his patient of her severe water phobia, which previously incorporated headaches and terrifying nightmares. He used under-eye tapping, linked to the stomach meridian, and the phobia vanished. Callahan developed his theory (1960-70’s) which he named Thought Field Therapy (TFT).
Craig trained with Callahan in TFT and moved to simplify his method, which resulted in today’s EFT, a universal tapping process, which covers all meridians at once. This stemmed from Callahan’s discovery that your unwanted emotions are caused by energy disruptions.
Gary Craig’s EFT is a healing technique that uses the body’s natural stress-reduction points to produce rapid change. Tapping on these points has been scientifically demonstrated to quickly reduce anxiety, depression and phobias.
EFT can improve your mood and boost your performance at work, within sport, and indeed in various aspects of your life. EFT helps you to identify the emotional roots of issues that are holding you back, and a statement can be created that will aid a healing response.
Addictions, weight issues, cravings, fears, insomnia and guilt can all be dealt with using EFT.
